The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reaffirmed the ban on the sale and unauthorised use of fireworks, commonly known as knockouts, bangers, or crackers, during the festive season. The measure aims to prevent criminals from using fireworks to cover illegal activities, reduce public panic, and minimise risks to lives and property.

CP Uzuegbu warned businesses and individuals against selling or using fireworks, urging parents and guardians to discourage children from purchasing or using them. He stressed that violators would face the full weight of the law.

In a press release issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the Commissioner also cautioned against indiscriminate bush burning during the harmattan season. He highlighted the legal implications and the dangers of fire outbreaks that could threaten lives, destroy property, and disrupt socio-economic stability.

The Commissioner encouraged residents to report suspected criminal activities to the nearest police station. He urged the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, prioritising safety and security during the festive season and beyond.
