Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has cancelled the purported election of a traditional ruler for the Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area. He also directed the state police command to arrest anyone claiming to be the Igwe of the community.
Governor Soludo clarified that no valid election was conducted for the position, deeming any related actions by the community illegal and criminal. He emphasised that the community remains without a monarch until further notice.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Local Government and Town Union Affairs, Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, revealed that a court case regarding the election of a new traditional ruler for Oba is still pending.
The state government reiterated its commitment to upholding due process and ensuring that the matter is resolved legally before any new leadership is recognised.
