Over 10,000 Terrorists Killed Nationwide in 2024 says Defence Headquarters

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that troops across the country killed 10,937 terrorists, arrested 12,538 suspects, and rescued 7,063 hostages in 2024. Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted the military’s achievements, including 16,171 surrendered terrorists and their families, and the recovery of 8,815 weapons and 228,004 rounds of ammunition.  

In the north-east, Operation Hadin Kai accounted for 3,151 terrorist deaths, 2,503 arrests, and 1,605 rescues. Meanwhile, in the north-central, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralised 1,047 violent extremists, arrested 3,001 suspects, and freed 1,782 hostages. Troops in the north-west killed 2,906 terrorists and rescued 2,616 hostages while recovering significant arms and ammunition.

In the south-south, Operation Delta Safe prevented the theft of 56.2 million litres of crude oil, destroyed 2,612 illegal refineries, and arrested 2,357 suspects. In the south-east, Operation Udo Ka neutralised 734 terrorists, rescued 372 kidnap victims, and made 974 arrests.  

The DHQ called on Nigerians to support the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, emphasising that the war requires collective effort.
