Former employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), dismissed in a mass layoff in 2024, have filed a class-action suit against the apex bank at the National Industrial Court in Abuja.
The claimants, led by Stephen Gana and 32 others, allege their termination violated the bank’s policies, Nigerian labour laws, and constitutional rights. They challenge the dismissal process outlined in letters dated April 5, 2024, under the guise of “Reorganizational and Human Capital Restructuring.”
The suit questions whether the CBN denied the staff a fair hearing before terminating their contracts, contrary to its Human Resources Policies and Section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution.

The claimants are seeking reinstatement, back pay, and an injunction to prevent future dismissals without due process.
The court, which urged both parties to pursue an amicable resolution, adjourned the case to January 29, 2025, for further proceedings or updates on settlement efforts.
