President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences following the deaths of six soldiers in an attack on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State. The incident occurred on Saturday when fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a pre-dawn assault on the base. According to military sources, the attackers arrived in trucks and on motorcycles, setting fire to the base and army vehicles.
Fighter jets, deployed from Maiduguri, 100 kilometres away, responded to the attack, striking the retreating assailants. The attack is believed to have caused significant damage, with several terrorists reportedly killed and their assets destroyed.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu offered his sympathy to the families of the fallen soldiers and vowed a thorough investigation into the incident. He also commended the military for their swift response, especially the air force, which carried out successful counter-attacks against the insurgents.
The President called on the armed forces to continue their efforts to combat terrorists, particularly in the Northwest, where criminal groups are threatening the safety of local communities, urging Nigerians and the media to support the military’s ongoing mission to restore security across the country.
