The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dismissed reports alleging the death of 16 civilians during an airstrike targeting insurgents in Tungar Kara, Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NAF described the operation, carried out on January 10 under ‘Operation Fansan Yamma’, as a “well-coordinated air-ground assault” aimed at combating banditry in the region.

The allegations emerged from community sources, claiming that 16 individuals, including members of the Zamfara Community Protection Guard and local vigilantes, were mistakenly killed during the strike.
However, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, refuted the claims. He suggested the reports may have originated from what he termed “terrorists and their sympathisers” as part of a propaganda effort to undermine the military’s recent successes in tackling insecurity.
