Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, visited the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Tuesday, just a day after her election. The lawmaker who represents Apapa Constituency I, met with members of the influential body alongside other Assembly members at Lagos House, Marina. The GAC is the highest decision-making body within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.q
Meranda’s election as Speaker followed the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, who had served for a decade. Obasa was removed by a majority vote of more than two-thirds of the 40-member House, citing allegations of misconduct and other offences. His removal has sparked political discussions in the state.

Abiodun Tobun, a member of the Assembly representing Epe Constituency I, defended the impeachment, saying the decision was necessary to maintain the integrity of the legislative body. He confirmed that the move to remove Obasa was reached by unanimous agreement among lawmakers.
The removal of Obasa and Meranda’s swift appointment highlights a significant shift in the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
