The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has firmly stated that the Federal Government will not permit a 100% increase in telecom tariffs, despite ongoing requests from operators in the sector.
For several years, telecom companies have called for a tariff hike, attributing their demands to escalating operational costs, inflation, and the devaluation of the naira.

Speaking on the matter, Mr Tijani acknowledged that an adjustment in tariffs is overdue. However, he emphasised that the government would not approve the steep hike sought by the telecom providers.
Instead, he revealed that a moderate increase ranging from 30% to 60% may be considered, cautioning that anything exceeding this range would impose an undue burden on citizens.
