The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has reported widespread vandalism of its infrastructure, with over 18 transmission towers targeted between January 9 and 14, 2025, across Rivers, Abia, and Kano States.
In a statement on Sunday, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, described the incidents as a significant threat to the company’s operations. Routine patrols uncovered damage to multiple towers in Rivers State, including critical structures on the Owerri/Ahoada 132kV line. In Abia, thieves removed bolts and structural components from the Alaoji/Umuahia 132kV line, while three towers along Kano’s Katsina-Gazoua line were critically damaged.
