Explosion in Niger State Linked to Illegal Stockpiling of Explosives

An explosion in the Sabon Pegi community, Mashegun Local Government Area, Niger State, on Sunday has been attributed to the illegal stockpiling of explosives. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, confirmed the incident was caused by explosives being stored in a residential house by Yushua Maikampala, a local from New Bussa.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the blast, triggered by an electrical spark at around 7 am, led to the destruction of 20 buildings in the area. At least two people have been confirmed dead, with authorities continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.
