Former Nigeria national team coach Adeboye Onigbinde has advised newly appointed Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle to prioritise effective squad management, warning that the country’s vast talent pool must be properly harnessed for success.
Nigeria boasts some of the most recognisable names in world football, with Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi playing in England, Victor Boniface and Gift Orban in Germany, and Chuba Akpom and Moses Simon featuring in France. Meanwhile, Chrisantus Uche and Chidera Ejuke ply their trade in Spain, while Samuel Chukwueze and Africa Player of the Year Ademola Lookman represent top Italian clubs.

Despite this abundance of talent, Nigeria’s World Cup qualification campaign has faltered. The Super Eagles currently sit fifth in Group C, trailing Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, and Lesotho. With only the group winners earning automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Chelle faces an uphill battle to steer Nigeria back on course.
