Arab leaders are meeting in Saudi Arabia today for urgent discussions on the future of Gaza, as regional efforts intensify to counter a controversial proposal from the United States.
Delegations from Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait are expected to consider a plan that could see up to $20 billion allocated for the reconstruction of the territory. The discussions follow a proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump, which envisions American control over Gaza, the forced resettlement of its population into Egypt and Jordan, and a redevelopment of the enclave into what he described as the ‘Riviera of the Middle East’. The plan has been widely condemned, with critics warning that it amounts to ethnic cleansing.Â

Today’s meeting sets the stage for an emergency Arab summit on 4 March, where leaders are expected to present a unified response and an alternative approach that does not involve the displacement of Palestinians.
