West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi faces a race against time to be fit for Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda in March after sustaining an injury during his club’s 2-0 victory over Oxford United.
The defender, who has struggled with fitness issues in recent months, only returned to action in February following a hamstring injury that sidelined him for much of the season. West Brom manager Tony Mowbray had been managing his minutes carefully, but the Nigerian international was forced off in the 41st minute on Saturday, replaced by Mason Holgate.

The nature of the injury remains unclear, though initial assessments suggest a possible recurrence of his previous problem. Further medical tests will determine the severity and whether he will be available for Nigeria’s crucial qualifiers.
