Customs Cancels Import Declarations Made Under Suspended FOB Levy

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has annulled import declarations made during the brief implementation of a contentious 4 percent free-on-board, FOB, levy.

The charge, introduced on February 5, was suspended six days later following backlash from importers and stakeholders. In a statement on Tuesday, NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada said the cancellation aims to ensure procedural clarity, maintain consistency, and prevent disruptions in cargo clearance.

Importers and customs agents affected by the initial levy must now recapture their declarations to proceed with goods clearance. The move, according to the official, aligns with efforts to streamline operations and enhance service delivery.

Mr Maiwada urged traders to comply promptly to avoid further delays in clearing their goods.
