Lagos Assembly Orders Remote Work Amid Leadership Crisis

Staff and legislative aides of the Lagos State House of Assembly have been instructed to work remotely until further notice, as tensions persist over the recent leadership shake-up.

The directive, issued in a memo on Sunday by Acting Clerk Babatunde Abubakar, is said to be a precautionary measure to safeguard staff and prevent any escalation of hostilities.

Mr Abubakar reaffirmed the commitment of the newly appointed Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, to ensuring workers’ safety and fostering a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The Assembly has been in turmoil since 32 lawmakers voted on 13 January to remove former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and ex-Clerk Olalekan Onafeko. Honourable Obasa was succeeded by his former deputy, Honourable Meranda.
