US President Donald Trump has welcomed the detention of Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil over his pro-Palestine activism, branding him a “radical foreign pro-Hamas student.”
The president described the arrest as the first of many, warning that his administration would not tolerate what he called pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, and anti-American activities on university campuses. He alleged that many involved in such protests were not genuine students but paid agitators, vowing they would be identified, detained, and deported.

No evidence has been presented to support claims that demonstrators were financially motivated.
Mahmoud Khalil, a legal permanent resident of the United States, remains in custody. His arrest has sparked concerns over free speech restrictions and efforts to suppress criticism of Israel in the country.
