Super Eagles arrive in Kigali ahead of crucial World Cup qualifier

Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekou Chelle arrived in Kigali on Sunday night, accompanied by his full backroom staff and two home-based players—Remo Stars’ goalkeeper Kayode Bankole and Niger Tornadoes’ midfielder Papa Daniel—as preparations begin for Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday, 21 March.

Genk forward Tolu Arokodare, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, and Olympiacos defender Bruno Onyemaechi touched down in the early hours of Monday, with other foreign-based players joining the squad later in the day. The team is expected to hold its first training session at the Amahoro Stadium, the venue for the encounter.

Nigeria, currently fifth in Group C with three points from four matches, are yet to register a victory in the campaign, having drawn three games and lost one. Rwanda, who lead the standings with seven points, will be aiming to consolidate their position at the top.

The two sides have met five times since 2004, with each securing one win while the remaining three encounters ended in draws.
