Electoral College Nigeria Calls for Fairness in Recall Process

The Electoral College Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to due process, constitutional democracy, and the rule of law in electoral matters, including the recall of elected officials.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Executive Director of the Electoral College Nigeria, Mr Kunle Lawal, citing Section 69 of the Nigerian Constitution and INEC guidelines, outlined key steps in the recall process originating from a petition signed by more than half of registered voters, verification by INEC, and a referendum within 90 days requiring majority support.

Mr Lawal stressed that INEC must conduct the process transparently and fairly, warning against political interference that could undermine democratic institutions.

He also said that as a non-partisan organisation, the Electoral College Nigeria, whose role is to educate citizens on their rights and responsibilities, is calling on all stakeholders to respect legal procedures and allow the recall process to proceed without manipulation.
