South Korea’s Top Court to Rule on Yoon’s Impeachment Friday

South Korea’s Constitutional Court is set to announce its verdict on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment this Friday, following months of political uncertainty.

President Yoon, suspended in December for declaring martial law and deploying troops to parliament, faced swift impeachment from lawmakers, sparking widespread unrest.

A ruling in favor of his removal requires six of the court’s eight justices. If impeached, a new election must be held within two months. The impeachment has deeply divided the country, with both large-scale protests and Yoon’s ongoing defiance, blaming political opponents for the crisis.

Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung remains a key contender in a potential election, though legal hurdles could prevent his candidacy. The court’s decision will shape South Korea’s political trajectory.
