Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South in the National Assembly, has formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress, APC, marking a return to the ruling party nearly two years after his defection to the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.
The former House of Representatives member, who previously served as Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters, announced his decision via social media on Wednesday.

His move comes amid growing shifts across party lines, as political figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
Senator Sumaila’s defection follows a high-profile switch in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa were reported to have also left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the APC.
Observers say the wave of defections could reshape the country’s political landscape in the months to come.
