The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has instructed all six Area Council chairmen in Abuja to immediately settle outstanding minimum wage arrears owed to workers. His directive follows recent protests by primary school teachers, health workers and council staff over unpaid entitlements.
Speaking on his behalf at the Workers’ Day celebrations in Abuja, the FCT Head of Civil Service, Grace Adayilo, noted that the industrial action by Area Council employees had become a concern for the administration. She confirmed that the FCT Administration had already released ₦4.16 billion to enable the councils to meet wage obligations.

The Minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to staff welfare, citing ongoing efforts to ensure timely salary and pension payments, staff development, improved workspaces, and fair promotion processes across the Territory’s public service.
