Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, says Africa’s future will be driven by women, but warns that systemic barriers are still holding many back.
Speaking at The Platform Africa on Thursday, Oduwole stressed the need for gender-intentional policies and inclusive leadership across the continent.
From boardrooms to market stalls, the Minister noted that women are no longer waiting for a seat at the table, they’re building their own. But she said progress is still far from enough.

Oduwole called for leadership that supports, mentors, and cultivates women at every level, saying countries with more inclusive policies grow faster and more equitably.
She urged both public and private sectors to be deliberate in designing policies that work for women, describing it as not just advocacy, but “smart economics.”
She also highlighted the need for cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing to help African women thrive and lead as economies evolve.
