Hamas Halts Ceasefire Talks Amid Gaza Starvation Crisis

Hamas says it will no longer participate in ceasefire talks with Israel, citing what it calls an ongoing “hunger war and extermination war” in the Gaza Strip. Senior Hamas official Basem Naim told AFP that negotiations are pointless unless the international community pressures Israel to stop what he described as “crimes of hunger, thirst, and killings.”

Since Israel imposed a total blockade on March 2, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has worsened drastically. Reports from Deir el-Balah indicate that families are now forced to eat expired or rotten food—or nothing at all.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society says food has completely run out in markets and aid centres, leaving over a million displaced people at risk of famine. Aid agencies are calling for the immediate and unimpeded entry of humanitarian assistance.

Meanwhile, leaked Israeli plans propose severely limiting food distribution in Gaza, allowing families only one food parcel per week through US-controlled hubs—a move the UN and other groups have firmly rejected.
