Health Unions Demand Immediate Payment of Seven-Month Salary Arrears, Threaten Strike

The Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, NUAHP, alongside the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, is demanding the immediate payment of seven months’ arrears stemming from the 2024 salary review. The unions issued the call following a national executive council meeting held in Jos, Plateau State.

In a communique jointly signed by NUAHP President Kamal Ibrahim and General Secretary Martin Egbanubi, the unions expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in implementing the 25 to 35 percent review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS. They described the failure to pay arrears from June to December 2023 as a breach of previous agreements with the federal government.

The unions are warning of a possible industrial action if the arrears are not paid without further delay. They also called on President Bola Tinubu to uphold his October 2024 commitment by directing relevant agencies to act swiftly.

Additionally, NUAHP and JOHESU are urging authorities to implement tax relief on clinical allowances and provide retention incentives to health professionals who remain in the country amidst economic challenges.
