The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has called on all Nigerian states to domesticate the Child Rights Act and the Trafficking in Persons Act as part of efforts to combat sexual abuse and exploitation, particularly among teenagers.
The appeal was made during a one-day workshop in Ugwunagbo, Abia State, focused on sexual and reproductive health rights and tackling the menace of ‘baby factories.’

Speaking on behalf of NHRC Abia Director Uche Nwokocha, Commission official Goodness Eze said Nigeria has made progress through laws like the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, VAPP, Act.
However, she stressed that widespread adoption and enforcement remain critical to making these laws effective.
The Commission also highlighted the importance of public awareness and support for victims in seeking justice, adding that ongoing advocacy and legal reform are essential to ending abuse and trafficking nationwide.
