The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has endorsed a recent call by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, for the unconditional release of detained separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Mr Obi, in a televised interview, described Kanu’s continued detention since his 2022 extradition from Kenya as unjustifiable. IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, welcomed the intervention, calling it a rare act of courage and moral clarity amid widespread political silence, particularly from South-East leaders.

The group accused the Federal Government of repeatedly amending charges against Mr. Kanu without success and described the prosecution as a failed strategy.
IPOB urged Justice James Omotosho to uphold the rule of law and called on the global community to demand Mr. Kanu’s immediate release.
