The World Igbo National Union, WINU, has sharply criticised Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his claim that 99.9% of criminals hiding in South-East forests are of Igbo origin.
The governor made the remark at an event in Maryland, United States—a statement that has since drawn widespread condemnation from Igbo stakeholders and civil society groups.
In a statement, WINU described the comment as reckless and unsupported by evidence. The group demanded either proof or a public apology, accusing Soludo of stigmatising his own people to satisfy political interests.

WINU also faulted the governor for ignoring documented reports implicating armed herders in attacks across Igbo communities.
They listed affected areas in Anambra and warned against shifting blame to local youths. The group further cautioned Soludo against supporting controversial RUGA policies, urging him to act in the true interest of the region’s security and dignity.
