Ireland Calls for Stronger EU Action Over Gaza

Irish Defence Minister Thomas Byrne

Ireland has called on the European Union to take firmer steps against Israel over its ongoing military operations in Gaza, insisting that dialogue alone is no longer sufficient.

Speaking in Brussels, Irish Defence Minister Thomas Byrne urged the bloc to use its influence more decisively, citing continued violence and limited progress on humanitarian access.

EU Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas has pledged biweekly updates on aid efforts, but Byrne criticised the lack of meaningful action, warning that civilian suffering persists.

He later posted on social media, stressing the need to uphold international law.

Ireland remains one of the EU’s most vocal critics of Israel’s conduct in the conflict.
