At least 20 people have died in a crush at a Gaza aid distribution site run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, GHF, in what is now the deadliest incident recorded at one of its centres.
The foundation says 19 were trampled and one stabbed during a surge of panic at the Khan Younis facility. It blamed the chaos on armed elements allegedly linked to Hamas.
But Gaza’s Media Office disputes this, accusing GHF’s private contractors of triggering the stampede by closing gates and firing tear gas and live rounds.

Local Nasser Hospital reported receiving 21 bodies, many of whom died from suffocation or crushing injuries.
Witnesses described desperate scenes—children trapped between fences, people falling underfoot, and injured civilians from pepper spray and overcrowding.
GHF denies using lethal force, saying only minimal pepper spray was deployed. The UN, which boycotts the programme, has called for further clarity.
