UNIPORT to Award 363 First-Class Degrees at 35th Convocation

The University of Port Harcourt is set to confer first-class honours on 363 students during its 35th convocation, which coincides with the institution’s 50th anniversary.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Owunari Georgewill made the announcement at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, stating that a total of 14,861 graduates will receive various academic qualifications between 21 and 26 July.

Of the undergraduate cohort, 9,788 students will be awarded first degrees, while over 5,000 candidates will be recognised in the postgraduate category. These include 2,008 with Postgraduate Diplomas, 2,131 with Master’s degrees, and 934 with Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

The university will also honour four prominent Nigerians with honorary doctorates: First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, TETFund Chair Aminu Masari, and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State.

Georgewill described the occasion as a season of academic and institutional reflection, marking achievements and ongoing challenges.
