Senate to Hold Tribute Session for Late President Muhammadu Buhari

The Senate will hold a special session on Wednesday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The session will reflect on his leadership and national contributions, following similar tributes by the Federal Executive Council last week.

Buhari died in London on 13 July after a prolonged illness and was buried in Daura, Katsina State. He served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as head of state between 1983 and 1985, making him the country’s second-longest-serving leader.

Meanwhile, the Senate has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it has approved the creation of new states. The clarification came after Senator Abdul Ningi raised concerns about misleading reports on the matter.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio said over 42 proposals have been received, but none has completed the rigorous constitutional process. He urged the public to await official communication on constitutional issues.
