House Approves N1.486 Trillion Rivers Budget, Cuts Security Spending

The House of Representatives has approved a N1.486 trillion budget for Rivers State for the 2025 fiscal year.

The decision followed the adoption of a report by the House Ad-hoc Committee on Rivers, presented by House Leader Prof Julius Ihonvbere.

The budget allocates over N256 billion for personnel, N162 billion for overheads, and more than N1 trillion for capital projects.

Lawmakers made significant adjustments, cutting N35 billion from funds earmarked for CCTV installations, gunboats, and surveillance contracts.

According to Prof Ihonvbere, over N30 billion from security-related votes was redirected to more pressing development needs, in a move aimed at ensuring greater accountability and resource efficiency.
