WHO Chief Says Gaza Facing Man-Made Starvation as Agencies Urge Israel to Allow Aid

The head of the World Health Organization has described the situation in Gaza as ‘man-made mass starvation’, blaming the ongoing blockade for preventing the delivery of vital humanitarian supplies.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the remarks as 109 aid agencies—including Oxfam, Amnesty International, and Médecins Sans Frontières—called on Israel to end restrictions that are blocking life-saving assistance.

Aid groups say warehouses are filled with food, water, and medicine just outside Gaza, yet access remains heavily restricted. Gaza’s health authorities reported 10 starvation deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 111—most of them children.

UN officials say over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed trying to reach aid since late May.

At least 72 Palestinians were reported killed on Wednesday, including two journalists.

As Israeli forces intensify operations in Gaza, a possible ceasefire deal is under quiet negotiation in Rome and Doha, though significant hurdles remain.
