At least four children have died and 17 others were injured after the roof of a government school collapsed in India’s Rajasthan state. The incident happened shortly after morning prayers at a school in Barmer district.
Officials say around 30 students were in the classroom when the ceiling suddenly gave way. Heavy rains and the building’s poor condition are believed to have contributed to the tragedy.

Local authorities have launched a formal investigation, as rescue operations continued late into the day. More than 30 students were pulled out alive, though several are critically injured.
The state’s education minister, Madan Dilawar said emergency support and medical care are being provided to the victims and their families. Footage showed cranes clearing rubble as distraught parents looked on.
