Gov. Zulum Flags Off Distribution of Food Aid to 57,000 Families in Borno

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has launched the distribution of food palliatives to over 57,000 households in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area. The intervention aims to cushion the effects of hardship during the lean season.

Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge are the only areas in the state still receiving regular aid due to insecurity, which has hindered residents from fully returning to farming. Most other local government areas stopped receiving aid after last year’s bumper harvest.

Governor Zulum, represented by the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring agriculture as a sustainable means of livelihood. He said support will continue alongside efforts to improve security.

Earlier this year, the governor had scaled down palliative distributions by 90 percent, shifting the focus towards empowerment and long-term development for victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.
