Israel’s top military officer has warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against a full military conquest of Gaza, saying such a move risks endangering remaining hostages and overextending the Israel Defense Forces.
Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir reportedly advised encircling key areas rather than a complete takeover, citing troop fatigue and the long-term burden of occupation. His position contrasts sharply with Netanyahu’s push for a more aggressive strategy, as he prepares to seek security cabinet approval for a full-scale operation.

The divide highlights mounting tensions between Israel’s military and political leadership. While army officials favour diplomatic routes, far-right ministers continue to press for total military control.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid also voiced concern, calling the move unwise and warning of a high national cost.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry reported 138 deaths in 24 hours, including five from starvation.
