12 People Arrested, 22 Vehicles Recovered in Rivers Car Theft Crackdown

Nigeria Police Launch Squad to Tackle Attacks on Schools

The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a major interstate car theft syndicate, arresting 12 suspects and recovering 22 stolen vehicles. The bust followed the carjacking of a Toyota Hiace bus in Onne in September 2024, reported by the vehicle’s owner, Enoch Daniel.

The breakthrough came after months of investigation by the Command’s C4i Strikeforce/Octopus unit. Initial suspects, John Amadi and Nna Goodluck, confessed to being hired for ₦90,000 each to snatch vehicles using hammers. Further arrests were made across Rivers, Kano, Akwa Ibom and other states.

Among those detained are a dismissed police officer, Adamu Musa, caught with 11 vehicles, and a pastor-turned-broker, Elijah Nwauwa, who operated in a scrap market in Onitsha. Police say the ring is coordinated by Falco Ibrahim, now on the run, with operations stretching as far as Cameroon.

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed all suspects will face charges and commended the operation as part of wider efforts to disrupt organised crime. She urged the public to remain vigilant and support the police with credible information.
