Federal pensioners on Monday staged a protest at the Lagos office of the Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate to demand the payment of a N32,000 pension increment approved by President Bola Tinubu. The retirees carried placards accusing authorities of neglecting their welfare.
Chairman of the Coalition of Federal Pensioners in Lagos, Mukaila Ogunbote, said the delay had left many pensioners struggling to survive. He alleged that Finance Minister Wale Edun was partly responsible for the non-payment and called for immediate disbursement.

President Tinubu had last year approved the increment along with a minimum pension guarantee. The directive was reaffirmed last Wednesday after a briefing from National Pension Commission Director General Omolola Oloworaran.
While stressing that pensioners have the right to protest over their entitlements, PTAD Liaison Officer Cashmir Audu told protesters the increment was approved but funds were unavailable.
