The Federal Executive Council has approved N142bn for the construction of modern bus terminals in six geopolitical zones, in what officials describe as the first major road transport intervention beyond road building.
Sites have been earmarked in Abeokuta, Gombe, Kano, Lokoja, Onitsha, and Ewu in Edo State. The Transport Ministry said the facilities aim to curb crime, reduce road accidents, and disrupt the flow of illegal arms.
At the same meeting, President Bola Tinubu ordered all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to conclude 2024 budget procurements by September 2025. The Bureau of Public Procurement warned that over 70 MDAs have yet to finalise projects, despite the fiscal year being extended. Each ministry must now submit a full list of projects for both the 2024 and 2025 budget cycles.
