The Federal Executive Council has approved N13 billion as right-of-way compensation for the Lagos-Ogun transmission project. Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu announced the decision after Wednesday’s meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. The $238 million project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and aims to strengthen electricity supply to major industrial hubs in Lagos.
Mr Adelabu said the funds will be used to compensate property owners and communities along the transmission line route. He noted the project is central to the government’s plan to improve electricity reliability, boost manufacturing output, and create jobs.

The council also approved $34 million, along with N5.2 billion, for the purchase and installation of high-capacity transformers. These, he said, will replace obsolete units on the national grid and reduce pressure on overloaded substations.
According to the minister, the upgrade will include new 150MVA and 100MVA transformers, strategically deployed to improve voltage stability and support increased transmission capacity.
