The Nigeria Immigration Service has begun deporting nearly 200 foreign nationals convicted of internet fraud. Officials confirmed that 42 were flown out on Sunday, with further batches scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
The deportees were among scores arrested in December 2024, when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided a Victoria Island high-rise in Lagos, described as the largest single-day internet fraud operation in Nigeria.

Those arrested included 114 Chinese citizens, 40 Filipinos, and others from Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Indonesia. Investigators said the group trained Nigerians to carry out cryptocurrency and romance scams.
Following convictions in June, a Lagos court ordered their repatriation. Assets worth more than $220,000 were also seized, strengthening Nigeria’s efforts against cybercrime networks.
