The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 69,000 people pre-registered online within seven hours of reopening its continuous voter registration portal.
INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun said 33,803 of the registrants are male while 35,573 are female, with young people aged 18 to 34 making up nearly 70 percent.

The commission announced that in-person registration will begin on 25 August at its 811 state and local government offices across the country, where online applicants will also be able to complete their registration.
Mr Olumekun warned that double registration is illegal, though transfers and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards will be allowed during the exercise.
