Napoli Step Up Striker Hunt After Lukaku Blow

Napoli are pressing ahead with plans to sign a new striker after Romelu Lukaku picked up a muscle injury in pre-season, ruling him out of the start of the Serie A campaign.

Manager Antonio Conte has turned to the transfer market, with Genk forward Tolu Arokodare emerging as a leading candidate. The 24-year-old Nigerian, valued at around €25m, was top scorer in Belgium last season with 21 goals and six assists. His height and aerial dominance are seen as a close fit to Lukaku’s style.

Transfer insiders say Napoli opened talks with Arokodare’s representatives this week. The club had also sounded out Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund, while other options include Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.

With Victor Osimhen sold to Galatasaray and Giacomo Raspadori leaving for Atletico Madrid, Napoli’s attacking depth is under pressure.
