Israel has announced plans to mobilise 60,000 reservists as it prepares a major push into Gaza City, despite ongoing international mediation for a ceasefire in the 22-month war. Defence Minister Israel Katz has authorised fresh operations in some of Gaza’s most crowded neighbourhoods, with officials confirming an additional 20,000 reservists will have their service extended.
The move comes amid warnings from rights groups that Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is worsening, with entire districts flattened, mass displacement, and starvation deaths rising.

Military officials say the new phase will be gradual and targeted, focusing on areas not previously entered, including Zeitoun and Jabalia.
Reports from inside Gaza describe heavy bombardment, with homes and makeshift camps destroyed overnight. Medical sources say at least 35 Palestinians, including civilians seeking aid, were killed on Wednesday as the conflict enters a more dangerous phase.
