The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh.
Those suspended are Alfred Berger, representing Makurdi North; Terna Shimawua of Kian; Cyril Ekong of Obi; and James Umoru of Apa constituency. The House said the action followed a failed attempt to unseat the Speaker on Thursday night.

Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, who raised a motion of urgent importance, accused the four of trying to destabilise the Assembly. The motion was adopted and Speaker Aondona Dajoh ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the lawmakers out of the chamber.
The House also appointed Audu Elias as its new spokesperson, replacing Alfred Berger who had held the position before his suspension.
