Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has confirmed that he will run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027. The clarification came through his spokesperson during the 2023 elections, Tunde Olusunle, who told ‘ThisDay’ that Atiku remains committed to contesting again.
Atiku said he decided to speak after suggestions that he might no longer be interested in the presidency. Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University had earlier implied that Atiku’s focus was more on improving Nigeria than on seeking office.

In response, Atiku dismissed the remarks as unauthorised. Speaking from his holiday home in the United Arab Emirates, he stressed that Prof. Olateju did not consult him before making the comments at an event in Lagos.
Atiku declared that he would contest in 2027, saying Nigeria must be rescued from what he described as the “intensive care unit” under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He added that poverty, hardship and rising anguish in the country were unacceptable.
