Gov. Uzodimma Approves ₦104,000 Minimum Wage for Imo Workers

Imo State governor Hope Uzodimma has approved a new minimum wage of 104,000 naira for civil servants. The governor made the announcement during a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House in Owerri.

He also raised doctors’ salaries from 215,000 naira to 503,000 naira, while lecturers in tertiary institutions will now earn at least 222,000 naira, up from 119,000. Uzodimma said the increases were aimed at improving workers’ welfare and boosting productivity.

The governor added that Imo’s internally generated revenue had risen from 400 million naira to over 3 billion monthly, while the state’s debt profile had fallen below 100 billion. He also announced plans to clear the last batch of gratuities owed to pensioners, totalling 16 billion naira.

In response, state NLC chairman Uchechigemezu Nwigwe welcomed the wage increase, describing it as a victory for workers. He assured the governor that civil servants would reciprocate the gesture with greater dedication and efficiency.
