The Israeli army has launched a large-scale operation in the old city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank. Witnesses said the raid began at around 3am local time, with dozens of soldiers and armoured vehicles deployed across several neighbourhoods.
Palestinian officials reported that troops stormed homes and shops, with some buildings converted into military posts. The governor of Nablus, Ghassan Daghlas, condemned the raid, calling it a “show of force with no justification”.

Local sources said clashes erupted at the eastern entrance to the old city, where young people threw stones at soldiers, who responded with tear gas and live rounds. The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed several injuries but none from gunfire.
The raid comes amid heightened violence in the West Bank since the Gaza war began in October 2023. According to Palestinian figures, at least 972 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers during that period, while Israeli authorities say 36 Israelis have died in attacks or military operations in the territory.
