The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has welcomed the conviction of pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa by a Finnish court, describing it as a significant step in the global fight against terrorism.

The Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti sentenced Mr. Ekpa to six years in prison after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offences linked to attempts to re-establish an independent Biafra.

In a statement, Defence spokesman Brigadier General Tukur Gusau quoted Musa as saying the ruling proved that those who incite or sponsor violence against Nigeria would not find safe haven abroad.

He praised Nigerian security, intelligence and diplomatic agencies for providing evidence that supported the prosecution, noting the outcome underscored the value of international cooperation against transnational threats.

General Musa reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant.
