The Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board says full academic activities at the new Smart Green Schools will begin on 22 September 2025. Chairman of the board, Hyginus Okebe, made the announcement at an emergency meeting in Enugu.
Mr Okebe commended staff and management for their commitment to government education programmes, while urging them to embrace digital skills to adapt to new learning methods. He added that ENSUBEB will soon begin daily supervision of the Smart Schools.

The chairman stressed the need for teamwork, sacrifice and accountability, warning against actions that could undermine basic education in the state. He assured staff that his administration would continue to operate transparently and carry everyone along.
Mr Okebe also revealed plans to create new departments and units within ENSUBEB, in line with Universal Basic Education Commission requirements, to expand the board’s operational reach and increase benefits.
